Kinesiology Tape
Have you ever seen athletes running around with brightly coloured tape on their shoulders, knees or ankles and wondered what it is? Let us introduce you to kinesiology tape!
Kinesiology tape is unlike your standard rigid sports tape. It is designed to ‘lift’ the skin to promote oxygen and blood flow which decreases swelling and inflammation.
Kinesiology tape has an elasticity element designed to mimic the skin which improves the gliding of muscles through their range of motion.
Kinesiology tape is used to:
Increase blood flow
Prevent injuries
Facilitate recovery
Improve range of motion
Facilitate healing of haematomas (bruising)
Kinesiology tape can be used to treat:
Achilles tendinopathy
Haematomas (bruising)
Rotator cuff injuries
Plantar fasciitis
Low back pain
Muscle strains
Joint pain
How to care for the area that has been taped after you leave Be Well:
Leave it on for up to three days
It is water resistant; pat dry with a towel after your shower
If there is any irritation to the skin, remove the tape as soon as possible
Remove the tape in the shower by pushing down on the skin while lifting the tape off
If you have an injury or want some extra support, chat to our Myotherapist Cassie about kinesiology tape at your next visit to Be Well Health Group Geelong.
